Insomnia can be insidious. One night of poor sleep turns into two, turns into three, turns into four, turns into years. You’ve looked up everything on the internet and asked everyone you know about how to sleep. You feel so tired throughout the day and then when night comes you lay your head on the pillow and it’s like someone threw a bucket of cold water on your head.
Your sleep can be better even without sleeping pills.
The difficult part about improving your sleep is that everything you do to fix it actually makes it worse. These strategies make logical sense but just don’t work in the long run. If you’re “trying” to get to sleep and it’s not happening then there is probably an underlying issue. When we meet we’ll thoroughly review your history and what’s been happening with your sleep. If needed, I’ll communicate with your doctor if something like a sleep study would make sense.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)
This is a version of the classic therapy adjusted to meet the specific needs of insomnia. We’re going to collect specific data about how sleep happens for you. Using this data we’ll make a specific plan with well defined steps to begin changing the patterns that have kept the sleepless nights going. We can have you sleeping better in a matter of weeks.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
Really? You’re going to use this one for my sleep too? If it’s appropriate we can also apply the ART process to help you sleep better.

You’re talking about what’s called sleep hygiene. These are great practices for consistent sleep. Much like brushing and flossing are great for keeping your teeth clean. However, when you have a cavity all the brushing and flossing in the world aren’t going to fix it. When you have chronic insomnia, all the sleep hygiene in the world is not going to fix it.
